Can Ashwagandha Be Your Next Health Ally? Read to Know

Ashwagandha is a herb that is deeply rooted in Ayurvedic medicine and is again gaining popularity as a natural remedy for stress, anxiety and other health issues. It is commonly known as “Indian ginseng” or “winter cherry.” Its name originates from the Sanskrit word “ashwa” and it means horse. It basically reflects the distinct smell of its root and the strength that it is believed to provide.

Many swear today by its ability to reduce stress and anxiety. Some studies suggest that ashwagandha can lower stress hormone cortisol. Research from 2019 showed that taking 240 mg of it daily reduced stress levels significantly.

The herb is also being explored for its potential in boosting physical performance. A 2021 review suggests that ashwagandha could improve strength and particularly for those who are involved in intense training. Findings reveal that taking 300–500 mg twice daily might offer noticeable benefits.

The effects of ashwagandha on heart health and neurodegenerative diseases have sparked curiosity. Preliminary research suggest that it could lower blood pressure and cholesterol. It even protects against conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. More evidences are yet awaited in the segment from animal studies and also the benefits in humans remain unclear today.

Ashwagandha is also said to have anti-cancer properties. Many claims that more scientific data is required to clearly confirm the benefits in the segment.

The potential of Ashwagandha is exciting and it is important to remain cautious. It offers hope for managing various conditions but most studies so far have been small as well as its long-term effects are not fully understood. It is best to view ashwagandha as a complementary approach to wellness rather than a cure-all.
